GROWTH RING
For the past 10 years, we have been conducting seasonal rituals in the woods for friends and family. These rituals mark the passing of the seasons and have become essential milestones for participants, many of whom now celebrate the seasons in their other circles. Initially, we approached these rituals like a laboratory, experimenting with different traditions and practices. What we learned from this was that the most valuable lessons the circle participants took away from the events were community and a sense of belonging, much more than the content of the rituals.
These experiences have prompted us to reflect on the importance of aligning with nature and the changing seasons, and of being part of a community.
The rapid pace of modern life can lead to unrealistic expectations about maintaining the same level of activity year-round. We assume our productivity will remain constant regardless of natural rhythms. This mindset might work in a tropical climate, but in the North, where daylight is limited, it feels strange and unnatural.
This disconnection underscores the need to rekindle our bond with the natural world and the seasons. By aligning our expectations with our true selves, we can take meaningful steps toward self-fulfilment.
We created our new e-book Growth Ring together with body therapist J. Kautz to inspire a lifestyle aligned with nature. Some of our ideas may resonate with you, while others may not. Take what you find helpful and consider it a starting point for living more in harmony with the yearly cycles.
